Police Commissioner (ag) Nigel Hoppie says that the massive fire at Eve Leary, Georgetown appeared to have been started in the area that houses ranks who stay at the Police headquarters.

Speaking to reporters at the scene, Hoppie stated that the fire started at the “western-most” part of the building in the compound. Also in the compound is the Police Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) and the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The fire appears to be contained by firefighters on the scene who are trying to end the blaze but officers were seen throwing files out of the windows of the upper flat of the DPP’s office.

Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, who is also on the scene, stated that an investigation into the matter will be launched.
