Police are searching for two suspects in connection with the brutal chopping of a 24-year-old Alex Williams, a mason of Rampersaud Street, No.2 Village, East Canje Berbice.

Regional Commander Boodnarine Persaud confirmed that the incident occurred at approximately 00:30hrs Sunday during a brawl on the No.2 Public Road in front of a liquor shop.

The victim was chopped about his body with a cutlass; he was pronounced dead at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

His father, Mohamed Ishmel, 42, who was present when the incident took place, told reporters that he was sleeping when his son woke him up and told him that “somebody violate he on the road.”

So, Ishmel and his son left home and went to the liquor store. The father claimed that a friend told his son to go back home and “behave himself” during which one of the suspects exited the liquor shop with two Guinness bottles and hurled one at Alex.

“I hear the explosion with the bottle in he head and Alex drop on his knee,” the father said.

At the same time, another suspect approached with a stainless-steel cutlass and dealt Alex several chops about his body, including one to his neck.

Ishmel ran to his son’s assistance, took off his shirt and wrapped it around the young man’s neck.

Within minutes of their arrival at the hospital, the injured Alex succumbed.
