Police in Berbice are investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident where a woman was found on her veranda at J.C Chandisingh Street, Rose Hall Town (East Berbice-Corentyne) with her throat slit on Thursday afternoon.
Regional Commander Boodnarine Persaud confirmed that the woman is hospitalised in a critical condition; she has been identified as Jamool Mookshah.
The News Room was informed that neighbours heard someone groaning between 17:00hrs and 17:30hrs and upon checking, they discovered the woman in a pool of blood with her throat slit in the bottom flat of her house.
The horrified neighbours contacted the police and Mookshah was taken to the hospital but while on her way there, she managed to tell the neighbours that she was in her backyard when a man jumped over the back fence and attacked her.
Mookshah said she dragged herself to the bottom flat veranda where she collapsed.
It is unclear if anything was stolen during the attack as police are continuing their investigations.
