A fire suspected to be the work of arsonists completely destroyed the home of a well known DJ late on Sunday evening (February 19, 2017).

Darrel Romeo of 283 Goed Intent, West Bank Demerara (WBD) lost his home to fire.

He spoke with the News Room earlier today (Monday, February 20, 2017) where he disclosed that he is now left with just his vehicle and the clothes on his back.

“Actually ma phone was on silent and when ah check ma phone, ah see ma phone blowing up, so when I answer the call, they seh ‘yuh house is on fire’ and ah was so shocked, ah just pause for a minute and then ah just jump in a mi car and come to the scene and when ah got here, is like the firemen had already put out the fire to the level as it at now” the man related.

The fire started after 23:00 hrs and caused extensive damage to the neighbouring homes.

An 80 year old resident told the News Room she recently renovated her home and it sustained significant damages.

Persons in the community are contending that the blaze may have been started by someone who once shared a relationship with the popular disc jockey.

DJ magnum as he is popularly called, told the News Room that he has since found somewhere to rest his head but no one managed anything as the power cables acted as a deterrent even to those who were on the scene early and attempted to assist in bringing the fire under control.

The Guyana Police Force and the Fire Service are continuing their investigations into the matter.
