Three Traffic Police Constables are presently under close arrest at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) after they were found to be acting suspiciously on Friday (March 24, 2017).

News Room has been informed that the ranks who are stationed in ‘A’ Division of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) were supposed to be on duty within the East La Penitence Station district, however, they were intercepted at Sophia.

It was communicated to the News Room that the Constables were about to be intercepted by a marked police patrol vehicle in the Sophia but after observing their colleagues, the ranks engaged in diversion tactics attempting to avoid the police patrol. However, they were eventually cornered and the patrol ranks who then observed that it was their fellow servicemen travelling in the vehicle, since the officers were clad in their uniform at the time.

They men were taken to a police station within ‘C’ Division where they were questioned. Contact was then made with the police in ‘A’ Division who made arrangements for the ranks to be returned to their division where they were immediately placed under close pending investigation.

Contacted this evening, Assistant Commissioner of Police and ‘A’ Division Commander, Clifton Hicken, confirmed that three of his junior ranks are under close arrest.

He said that the police ranks are likely to be charged departmentally for operating outside of their division, something which contravenes the standing orders of the force.
