A West Coast Demerara mother was stabbed several times about her body by her ex-husband Thursday morning in the presence of their three-year-old son.
The woman, Geeta “Pinky” Deochand, is hospitalized at the West Demerara Regional Hospital and is said to be in a stable condition, Police reported.
The assailant, who fled the scene, was captured and taken into custody shortly after and is assisting with the investigation.
The incident occurred about 08:00hrs this morning at Sea View Street, Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara.
Police said Deochand, 27, of lot 10 Cornelia Ida, W.C.D and the 27-year-old suspect separated a while ago.
Police said that on Thursday morning, the woman and her son were standing on the Public Road when the suspect approached and asked to kiss his son.
“…but the victim refused to allow him and he became enraged, wounded her with a knife and fled the scene,” Police stated.
