VIDEO: Pedestrian killed in East Bank accident

A pedestrian Friday afternoon died shortly after being struck down by a minibus on the Mc Doom Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Forty-eight year old Dexter Thomas of Lot 14 Haslington, East Coast Demerara was struck down as he was crossing the road at about 17:30hrs.

In CCTV footage circulated on social media, Thomas was seen running into the path of a minibus as he attempted to cross the road from east to west.

According to information reaching News Room, the driver BWW 6110, Troy Arthur told investigators that he saw Thomas standing between the concrete median at the center of the road but as he got closer, the pedestrian suddenly ran into his path.

Arthur said he attempted to swerve further left but the left front of the minibus still hit the pedestrian.

As a result of swerving, he also collided with Minibus # BNN 3796 driven by Daniel Fordyce which was proceeding north on the western side of the road in the same direction.

The pedestrian fell onto the road surface where he received injuries about the body. He was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was treated for head injuries and a broken right leg.

Thomas later died while receiving additional treatmnt.
