A 45-year-old man was on Wednesday sentenced to six months imprisonment for stealing a quantity of salt fish and other items from a vendor at the Stabroek Market Ferry Stelling.

Shawn Roberts appeared before City Magistrate Faith McGusty and admitted that on June 2,2019, at the Stabroek Market Ferry Stelling, he stole a quantity of salt fish, provision and carrots totaling $59,000, property of Janelle Jupiter.

” I take all and sold them for medical treatment,” Roberts told the court as he opted to plead guilty.

The unrepresented man told the court that he was involved in an accident and was hospitalised. Due to his injuries, he had to get medication and stole the items to pay for his treatment.

Magistrate McGusty, after listening to Roberts, sentenced him to six-months imprisonment.
