A 37-year-old man remains a patient in the New Amsterdam Hospital after he was stabbed to his abdomen by a lone bandit on Thursday morning.

Ashraf Ally had just exited a building and was standing on the Cumberland Public Road when the attacker, armed with a knife, approached and attempted to grab a bag.

Ally, a vendor of the New Amsterdam Market, held on to the bag and tried the fight off the bandit but was stabbed in the process while the perpetrator quickly made his escape by running through a street in the opposite direction with the bag containing $300,000 and a chicken.

The man fell to the ground but quickly got up and ran back into the Pharmacy where he was assisted by the staff and then taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

His wife, Shaheeda Ally said she was terrified when she received news of the incident. She told the News Room she is thankful that that the weapon did not damage any internal organ. Her husband, she said, only has one kidney.

One person is currently in custody assisting with investigations.
