Prime Minister to oversee energy, telecoms, information, CDC and other portfolios

The country’s Prime Minister, Brigadier (rt’d) Mark Phillips, has been assigned multiple portfolios.

The Prime Minister will be responsible for the energy sector in areas such as the Guyana Power and Light Company and the Guyana Energy Agency.

He will also handle the telecommunications sector which under the previous Government amounted to an entire Ministry.

The Prime Minister will also have oversight of the Civil Defence Commission, which makes plans and conducts operations to deal with all types of disasters in Guyana.

Brigadier Phillips will have responsibility for the information sector.

In addition, the Prime Minister, who is a former Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force, will sit on the Defence Board and will have other assignments determined by President Dr Irfaan Ali.

The responsibilities of all ministers of the Government will be clearly defined and published in the official gazette shortly.
