    Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll continues to rapidly increase with two more persons dying on Wednesday taking the total number of deaths to 71.

    The Ministry of Health announced that the latest fatalities are a 70 -year-old female from Demerara-Mahaica (Region 4) who died while receiving care at a medical facility and a 66-year-old woman from Barima-Waini (Region 1).

    This would reflect six COVID-19 related deaths in the last three days. Tuesday night, a 25-year-old male from the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) died and was recorded as the 69th death.

    The 68th victim died on Tuesday; it was a 74-year-old woman from Region One.

    On Monday, two other elderly persons from Region One died – a 57-year-old woman and a 67-year-old man died within hours apart while also receiving treatment.

    Meanwhile, Guyana on Wednesday recorded 98 new cases, bringing the total number of known cases to 2,535.

    Region One recorded 57 new cases, Region Three has three more cases, Region Four recorded nine additional cases and there are 29 new cases in Region Eight.

    There are 14 persons in the COVID-19 ICU and 988 active cases in isolation – 828 who are in home isolation and 160 persons in institutional isolation.

    There are also 67 persons in institutional quarantine and thus far a total of 1,464 persons have recovered.

    Editor’s note: The two new COVID-19 deaths are not reflected in today’s Dashboard by the Ministry of Health.
