A waitress and four other persons have been identified as the suspects in a Wednesday night robbery at Sita’s Bar, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara. The waitress and a man, suspected to be her accomplice, have been arrested.

According to Police, customer Glezel Roberts was at the bar with a group of others when he was pounced upon and robbed of $47,000 cash and two mobile phones, together valued $174,000.

Police said Roberts reported that he had noticed a waitress talking to a man who collected her phone and was using it to talk to someone.

Shortly after, Roberts said a man, fully masked and wearing a black hoodie, ran into the bar; he was followed by two other men who were also masked and wearing orange hoodies.

One of the men pointed a gun to Roberts’ head and relieved him of the money and the phones, while the other two men, armed with cutlasses, robbed other patrons; they then all escaped.

Police said no shot was fired and no one was injured.

The waitress and the man she was talking to were contacted and a search was conducted at their home, but nothing of evidential value was found.

The two were arrested and taken to the Beterverwagting Police Station and they remain in custody as the investigations continue.
