The General Manager of the Guyana Oil Company (GuyOil), Trevor Bassoo, on Tuesday denounced reports in the media that he was sent on administrative leave, noting that he has tendered his resignation.

In a statement made on his Facebook page on Tuesday, Bassoo denied the reports that he was sent on leave pending an investigation into a million-dollar scandal involving the procurement of fuel.

“It was brought to my attention that news is being circulated on social media that implies that I was sent on administrative leave in light of alleged corruption at GUYOIL.

“I wish to state that is INCORRECT. I also wish to advise that I have chosen to and have submitted my resignation to the Chairman and Board of Directors,” Basso stated.

Basso said he intends to solicit legal advice on the way forward.

“Friends, family and well-wishers, please do not be misguided by propaganda…Thank you for the love and support that I have received over the past few hours. You have all given me strength to fight this unnecessary battle,” he said.

Basso was appointed General Manager in October 2020, replacing the then Chief Executive Officer, Renatha Exeter, who had resigned from the company.

GuyOil has not yet announced his replacement.
