What started out as a small fire at the Sharon’s Mall on Charlotte and King Streets, Georgetown has now grown into a massive blaze that has ravaged the entire building.

Firefighters are currently on the scene trying to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.

The fire, reportedly, started on the second floor of Sharon’s Mall and spread upwards to the third and fourth floors.

According to the Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn, staff in the large building smelled smoke at around 11:00hrs and raised their concerns. Later in the day, staff saw the smoke and they evacuated the building.

Firefighters arrived on the scene while the fire was still small but the blaze exacerbated.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.
