Deadly West Berbice crash: Woman, 6-month-old baby hospitalized

A young woman and her 6-month old daughter are now hospitalized in a critical condition following the deadly West Coast Berbice crash that claimed three lives.

She has been identified as 27-year-old Joycelyn Cole of 39 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice.

The injured woman and her daughter, Carolyn Edwards, were headed back to New Amsterdam in a car driven by 23-year-old taxi driver Carlos Edwards – the father of the child.

He was killed in the accident along with 61-year-old ex-policeman Hookumchand Parmanand of No. 36 Village, Corentyne Berbice and an unidentified woman.

Also injured in the accident was 57-year-old Lakeram Mangal of 696 Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam.

The News Room understands that Edwards lost control of his car during the early morning downpour and crashed into a lamp post and the fence of the GECOM office at Fort Wellington.

Those injured as said to be patients at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital in critical conditions.

Investigations are ongoing.
