A man is now hospitalised in a stable condition after he was stabbed with a broken beer bottle during attempts to save a woman from being assaulted.
The incident occurred on Sunday at Belvedere Village, Corentyne at around 20:00 hrs. The suspect, a 21-year-old man has since been arrested.
According to the police report, the victim, 26-year-old Sewdat Hanmon called ‘Ajil’ was headed home on his bicycle and whilst on his way, he observed the suspect assaulting a woman.
Hanmon reportedly attempted to intervene and assist the woman, however, a scuffle ensued between him and the suspect.
The suspect then broke a beer bottle and dealt Hanmon four stab wounds about his body.
He was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was treated and later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
The suspect was later arrested.
Investigations are ongoing.
