Two men caught with more than 15 pounds of ganja in Berbice
Two men were caught with a total of 7,028 grams of cannabis sativa (15 pounds) while driving along the Seafield Public Road on the West Coast of Berbice (WCB) at around 11:30 hrs Sunday.
Acting on information provided to the police, a mobile patrol stopped a minibus bearing the number BXX 119 on the public road and told the driver to proceed to the Weldaad Police Station.
At the station, police headquarters reported that a search was conducted on a 44-year-old male passenger.
Three wrapped parcels containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were found in his travelling bag which he had in his possession.
As such, a police report stated that he was told of the offence, arrested and cautioned and admitted possession of the said suspected cannabis.
Additionally, a further search was carried out in the minibus where a green and grey haversack was seen in the trunk belonging to a 23-year-old male passenger.
That backpack reportedly contained three bulky parcels comprising leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be cannabis.
The passenger was told of the allegation, arrested and cautioned, but he denied possession of the said narcotics.
The suspected cannabis was weighed and those found in the first suspect’s possession amounted to 3,175 grams, while the second set of cannabis weighed 3,853 grams.
Both suspects are presently in custody as further investigations are underway.
