Despite a two-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Rupununi Rodeo, one of the biggest public entertainment events in Guyana, has returned.

Earlier in January, the Rodeo Committee had announced that the event would miss 2022 due to the surge in COVID-19 infections. The Committee was not granted approval for the hosting of the event by the National COVID-19 Task Force, disappointing thousands of excited fans.

But now, with the curfew relaxed, the wait is over as the Rodeo is slated for April 16-17.

“We hope despite short notice you have a fantastic Rodeo 2022 and we look forward to Rodeo 2023 where we can work with all stakeholders with enough time and resources to bring back the wild side we know and love to the Rupununi Rancher’s Rodeo,” the Rodeo Committee said in a release.

The event is a staple for the Easter weekend celebrations.

Bareback bronco and bull riding, cow milking and calf and sheep roping were a few of the activities that thousands of locals and overseas patrons would flock to Lethem, Region Nine to witness.
