Drunk driver arrested in Linden Highway accident

An intoxicated driver involved in an accident at Hillfoot, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, is in police custody.

Rolston Daniels, 40, of Supply, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was driving his motorcar (PXX 7229) when he lost control and crashed into two men on a motorcycle (CK 6361).

The driver of the motorcycle, 46-year-old Michael Roach of Friendship, EBD, suffered a severed right knee. Police Headquarters said he is in a serious condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Meanwhile, pillion rider 28-year-old Romalo Hubbard, was treated for his injuries and sent away.

The police reported that the accident occurred at about 04:30hrs on Sunday; Daniels was proceeding east along the northern side of the road when he lost control and ended on the opposite side of the road, colliding with the motorcycle.

Police said Hubbard and Roach fell onto the road surface and sustained injuries about their bodies.

They were picked up in a conscious condition by public-spirited citizens and placed into a passing vehicle and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.

According to the police, Roach is in the critical bay awaiting surgery.

Meanwhile, a notice of intended prosecution has been served on the driver of the car after a breathalyser test found his alcohol level to be 139 and 160 micrograms.

The police in Regional Division #4B are continuing to plea with the public to desist from consuming alcohol and driving.

“Persons are encouraged to engage a designated driver should they decide to consume alcohol and have to travel afterward,” police said.
