Taxi driver robbed at knifepoint while waiting on passenger

A 47-year-old taxi driver was robbed at knifepoint by two men in the wee hours of Monday in the vicinity of the Chinese Embassy in Georgetown.

Police Headquarters reported that the driver was robbed of his Samsung Galaxy smartphone valued $45,000, a silver band valued $60,000, one gold ring valued $80,000 and a keypad valued $40,000.

The robbery occurred at about 01:30hrs while the taxi driver was waiting to pick up a passenger.

Police said the two unidentifiable suspects, one of whom was armed with a knife, confronted the driver and pointed the knife to his neck. The suspects relieved him of the items and escaped.

Investigations are ongoing.
