Baburam Suraj Ganpat, 37, appeared virtually at the Springlands Magistrate’s where he was charged with the murder of his ex-wife, Padmini Ramchandar called ‘Cindy’.
He appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore; the charge read that on Monday, August 08, at No. 47 Village, he murdered Ramchandar.
Prosecutor Mark Edwards told the court that the file is incomplete and Ganpat was unrepresented.
He was not required to enter a plea since the charge is indictable and was remanded to prison until November 02, 2022.
Ramchandar was on her way to visit a relative on her electric scooter when Ganpat attacked and stabbed her multiple times before escaping.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 hrs. Police sources told the News Room that the victim sustained more than three stab wounds about her body and was rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Ganpat had subsequently made a call to a relative hours after the stabbing and confessed that he killed Ramchandar after he was told that she was seeing someone else. Several days later Ganpat turned himself over to the police and also confessed.
