Four gunmen storm supermarket at Industry

Police are on the hunt for four gunmen wearing skull hats and face masks who reportedly stormed the Wan Li Supermarket at Industry, East Coast Demerara, and made off with an undisclosed sum of cash.

The supermarket is owned by a 28-year-old businesswoman who was about to close up at about 20:00hrs on Wednesday when she was confronted by the four suspects. Police Headquarters reported that the suspects were on two motorcycles.

The two pillion riders rushed into the supermarket pointing handguns at the businesswoman while ransacking the cashier area.

During the ordeal, a 37-year-old man drove up to the supermarket to make a purchase and was confronted by one of the suspects who pointed a handgun at him demanding he hand over his valuables. In an attempt to escape, the man drove off and collided with a fence when the suspect fired two shots in his direction.

No one was injured. Investigations are ongoing.
