A second monkeypox case has been confirmed in Guyana, according to Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony.

The Health Minister made the announcement on Monday, during his daily update.

He, however, offered no additional details on this second case.

The News Room understands that the second infected person is a woman in her 30s. She has no recent travel history.

One week ago, Guyana confirmed its first monkeypox case: a 57-year-old man from Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica).

Since then, the man has been isolated and the local health authorities started the process of contact tracing and testing.
