The charred remains of a man identified only as ‘Slowie’ was removed from among debris Sunday afternoon after firefighters managed to subdue a fire that had engulfed a Windsor Forest, West Coast Demerara property.

The man, who is said to be the homeowner, lived in the building with his wife and two sons.

The building, situated at Lot 194 7th Street, also housed a grocery store and a small church.

The News Room was informed that there was a power outage and when electricity was returned sometime around 14:00hrs, persons reported that there was a spark in the shop.

It is believed that the spark ignited the blaze that gutted the property.

The man who perished was in the shower at the time and while everyone rushed out of the building, he stopped to get dressed but became trapped among the smoke and flames.

He never made it out alive.

The Guyana Fire Service and the Guyana Police Force have launched separate investigations into the deadly fire.
