Zeelugt man busted with $400k in ‘ganja’

Akeem Archer, a 27-year-old man from Zeelugt Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, was on Thursday arrested by ranks of Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) after he was found with five pounds of cannabis in his possession.

According to a press release from the anti-drug agency on Friday, CANU officers conducted an operation in the vicinity of Lombard Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, where they intercepted Archer.

He was carrying a backpack which was searched and led to the discovery of a parcel containing suspected cannabis.

Archer was arrested and escorted to the CANU Headquarters along with the suspected narcotics, which tested positive for cannabis and weighed approximately five pounds (2.33 kg).

The drug carries a street value of approximately $400,000.
