‘It was always my dream’: 28-y-o opens family-oriented medical lab

Alta Das, a 28-year-old aspiring biotechnologist had her dream realised on Tuesday when she opened her first medical testing laboratory.

The Family Laboratory was officially opened at Amazonia Mall, Providence, East Bank Demerara.

Das, who is the managing director of the lab, said along with blood testing services, they are also offering home and mobile testing services for the convenience of their patients.

The testing includes urinalysis, lipid profile, liver and kidney function, complete blood count, STI screening, thyroid function and blood sugar testing.

“It has always been a dream of mine to open a laboratory with the help of my family because you know it is a big venture for a young woman in business,” Das said while addressing those gathered at the opening ceremony.

She explained that persons can request to have their testing done at home by messaging on Facebook at the Family Laboratory.

“If you have the option of being on the go, you can have one of our team members meet you at a location and take your sample and send it for testing,” Das said.

She revealed that she is also working to establish a website and a mobile app soon.

“This is a great venture for me and I look forward to seeing you and having your support,” she said.

Meanwhile, Marketing and Assistant Manager at the Amazonia Mall, Cindy Ramnarine, in brief remarks noted that the lab adds to several health services available at the mall such as dental and optical.

“We saw there was a need for the East Bank corridor and we are trying to have a one-stop convenient location, that is not just for shopping,” Ramnarine said.
