A 42-year-old woman of Timmers Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam was remanded to prison Monday after being charged with murder.

Leila Bacchus appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Renita Singh where the charge was read to her, alleging that she murdered 43-year-old Andy Junor called ‘Bull’, a Carpenter who she shared a relationship and living space with.

She was not required to enter a plea and was remanded to prison until July 14 2023

Bacchus had reported to the police that the man consumed poison on May 16 and died at the New Amsterdam Hospital on May 20 2023.

Bacchus and Junor shared a common law relationship for the past 12 years and have three children.

The Police said Bacchus was unfaithful and on one occasion Junor caught her in the act.

That relationship ended and Bacchus struck up another relationship with someone from another country while living with Junor.

Bacchus told police that she contemplated for about “three to four days” giving her reputed husband poison. She said she knew that the deceased was in the habit of consuming Turbo energy drinks and so contaminated the drink with poison.

The man consumed the contaminated energy drink unknowingly and immediately began vomiting. She told police she called on her sister-in-law Donette Junor that also lives in the same house and told her that her brother drank poison.

He was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he died four days later.
