Newly elected President of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) Omodelle ‘Dee’ George says she intends to “stay the course” of past presidents and work towards achieving the goals of the Association.

“I have been in the belly of the whale more or less, I understand our longstanding members and what it is that we have always wanted for our membership,” she said in an interview with the News Room.

“We want to be true ambassadors of Guyana and to ensure that persons have good experiences when they’re in Guyana.”

THAG is the leading association representing the tourism and hospitality industry in Guyana and it is dedicated to providing support to its members.

George, who is currently one of the managing directors at the Herdmanston Lodge, has been a member of THAG for 16 of her 18 years in the industry and noted that she knows how the industry operates. Further, she is clear on the stringent goals that the Association has set up to contribute to the growth and success of the sector.

George acknowledged that there are several shoulders which she stands on and she assured that the strategic objectives of THAG are in safe hands.

“I have the opportunity to make sure that those plans come to fruition so it’s not a matter of what I can do better than my predecessors. It’s about how do I bring to light and life what it is that we have decided to do as an organisation,” she explained.

According to George, she doesn’t intend to “outdo” her predecessors but rather work alongside them for as long as she can to ensure that all members receive the support they need.

George and her team are expected to work towards advancing the tourism and hospitality industry in Guyana.

Part of the committee are: Eduardo Reple, General Manager of the Guyana Marriott Hotel, who was appointed as the Vice President; Salvador de Caires, Manager of Tourism & Hospitality for Evergreen Adventures & Baganara Island Resort, who is serving as the Treasurer; Abigail Ally, General Manager at Bimichi Eco Resort; Carla Vantull, General Manager at Wilderness Explorers; Dion Inniss,  Sales Executive for Guyana & Suriname at Caribbean Airlines; and Lorenzo Persaud, Business Development Manager at Ansa Motors Guyana Inc.
