The best of London in Guyana as young woman opens cosmetic store

Palette’s & Creams Cosmetics is a makeup and beauty store that brings the best of London to you.

Launched in 2020, at the height of the pandemic, its founder Tahamene Cuffy- Linton decided to open a business with the added challenge of not living in the country. The UK based Guyanese took the opportunity of more free time after her job placed her on furlough (temporary leave of absence usually due to economic conditions), to launch Palettes and Creams Cosmetics. Cuffy-Linton has been able to grow the business from afar doing the shopping and sourcing in the UK and shipping to Guyana, entrusting the sales and distribution to her local team.

Global statistics reveal that only 30% of new businesses survive the first three years. With odds like that and a literal ocean between her and her customers, logic would have encouraged her to give up. However, three years later, Palettes & Creams Cosmetics has graduated from an online business to opening their first store location, here in Georgetown. With the opening of the store Cuffy-Linton has also expanded the stores product range to haircare and skincare—including the addition of some of the most viral, and effective French skincare brands such as Embryolisse, La Roche Posay and Avène.

The founder shared with attendees her story on starting the business, with her first purchase for the then online store being £50 GBP, about $13,000 GYD, and reflecting on how far they have come, and the importance of not despising humble beginnings. Palettes & Creams will continue to be the premier store for professional make-up artists and skincare aficionados alike.

Located at 39 Durban Street Wortmanville, the store will be open for business Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
