A number of Mexican companies are currently in Guyana on a trade mission with the aim of exploring investment opportunities and potential partnerships.
This visit marks the first official Mexican trade mission to Guyana. Mexican Ambassador to Guyana, Mauricio Vizcaíno Crespo, revealed that the establishment of the Mexico/Guyana Chamber of Commerce is also in progress, with the aim of launching by the end of this year.
“There has been a lot of interest from Mexican companies, Guyanese companies. Here at the Embassy, we have received all sorts of requests looking for services and for products,” Ambassador Crespo said during a meeting with officials from the companies on Tuesday at the Mexican Embassy in Georgetown.
He noted that the majority of the companies operate in the building and construction industry with a few involved in the agriculture and technology sectors.
Over the course of the next five days, these companies will engage in discussions and meetings with government officials from various ministries, including Public Works, Housing, and Water and other cabinet members. They will also meet with the private sector and Prime Minister Brigadier (retired) Mark Phillips.
“We know that Guyana is developing a huge network of infrastructural roads, new ports and expanding their airport. That has attracted the attention of Mexican companies and that is why we are pushing to develop and strengthen the links between Guyana and Mexico,” Ambassador Crespo stated.
He highlighted the challenges connecting the two countries such as maritime, air logistics and the language barrier.
Leading the mission is Ricardo Magana, who explained that the mission’s primary goal is to show Mexican companies the business environment in Guyana, help those interested in investing and build partnerships.
“This is an exploratory mission and this is the first one of many. We are looking forward to teaming up and doing a lot of things for the benefit and prosperity of both of our nations,” Magana said.
Meanwhile, Rosh Khan, President of Ace Consulting Group, also attended the meeting and offered his company’s expertise to the visiting companies.
“We assist companies with getting set up in Guyana, whether that is trying to find partners or just trying to get your compliance right in Guyana.
“We are delighted to see the interest, a lot of people talk about being interested in Guyana but you are doing what most people don’t which is, you are here visiting and actually taking the time and investing the resources to be here and to see this 8300 square miles of opportunity,” Khan said.
Additionally, Ambassador Crespo said he is also working with Guyana’s Ambassador to Mexico, Zulfikar Ally to develop trade missions to Mexico.
