Yoogendra Sukhdeo, the man who publicly flashed guns and money and confessed to the murder of his young business associate Amit Singh, remains in custody and is scheduled to be charged on Monday.

This was confirmed by Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum who Friday told the News Room that investigators are seeking to extend Sukhdeo’s 72-hour detention period, which expires today.

Once granted an extension, Sukhdeo will stay in custody this weekend.

The News Room has confirmed that Sukhdeo is an ex-policeman.

On Tuesday last, he lured Singh to a family property at Middle Road, La Penitence, under the pretext that he had gold to sell.

Once there, he told detectives that, acting alone, he bludgeoned Singh to the head with a piece of wood and attempted to strangle him. He then wrapped Singh’s body in a sheet and locked the house before leaving with $7.7 million which Singh had on him to pay for the gold.

Hours after Singh’s battered body was found, Police arrested Sukhdeo.

A search was subsequently conducted at Sukhdeo’s 20th Avenue Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara house and the stolen cash was found in his bedroom.

Singh’s family owns and operates D. Singh Trading at Campbellville; the young man got involved in the gold business some time ago with the full support of his family.

A quick scan of Sukhdeo’s Instagram page shows his obsession with money, guns and power. After this revelation was made, Sukhdeo’s Instagram page was deactivated.
