Police destroy $151 million worth of ganja
Police in Region Ten on Wednesday discovered and destroyed $151 million worth of cannabis that were being cultivated on two farms at Ebini Backdam, Berbice River.
A makeshift camp with kitchen utensils and a quantity of groceries, as well as, 90 kilograms of dried cannabis worth $81.6 million were also destroyed.
In a statement, Police Headquarters said ranks from Region Ten conducted a drug eradication exercise between 07:30 hrs and 17:00 hrs.
During the exercise, two farms measuring seven acres and a quantity of marijuana with a street value of $151 million were destroyed.
According to the police, the first farm was approximately five acres in size.
It had 50 beds and each bed had 460 plants, ranging between one foot and two feet in height.
“There were a total of 23,000 plants, with an average weight of 25,300 kilograms, with a street value of $3,896, 200,” Police Headquarters said.
The second farm had 3,728 plants, ranging from one foot to three feet in height, with a street value of $631, 523.
Police said the farms were photographed before they were destroyed by fire.
No arrest was made.
