4 youths remanded on series of robbery charges

Four men were remanded to prison on Monday, November 20, 2017, by Magistrate Judy Latchman for a series of robbery-related charges.

It is alleged that the quartet: Carl Hiliman,19 of Regent Street, Bourda; 20-year-old Kristoff Watts and Leon Gittens, 21 both of Cowen Street, Kingston along with 20-year-old Kwasie McCoy, also of Kingston are reportedly in a gang.

The men are accused of robbing Asif Mohammed of a quantity of cash, electronics and personal items valued $2.2M while making use of personal violence; they pleaded not guilty.

It is also alleged that on July 30, 2017, at America and London Street Hiliman, Gittens and McCoy robbed Ryan Mohabir of a phone, wallet and cash totalling $26,000 while armed with an icepick. They also denied this charge.

It is further alleged that on July 25, 2017, at America and London Street, the trio robbed Carl Chung of a cellphone, foreign and local currency totalling $115,200. They denied the charge.

Hiliman and Gittens are separately charged robbing Royaita Subacie of an iPhone, a Japanese passport and US$600 and other items totalling $272,000 on October 28, 2017, at Croal Street, Georgetown.

Hiliman was also charged with robbing Danniram Rampandis of an iPhone, wallet and other items totalling $166,000 and robbing Suraj Gocharran of a phone and other items totalling $163,000 on September 24, 2017, at Sheriff Street, Georgetown.

The unrepresented 19-year-old pleaded not guilty to both of these charges.

Police Prosecutor, Shawn Gonsalves objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the charges. They were remanded until December 4, 2017.
