Cop under close arrest for nightclub shooting
A 28-year-old police constable is under close arrest after he allegedly discharged a firearm at a nightclub located at Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
The cop, Caland John is stationed at F Division Headquarters.
News Room understands that on Friday night, the officer discharged a single round on the floor of the nightclub following a dispute between his colleague and a teenager over a woman.
Akeem Moore, 28, and Mark John, 17, were having an argument over a woman who was in the company of the teenager.
In the middle of the argument, the police allegedly pulled out a handgun and discharged the round.
Subsequently, the officer and Moore joined a motorcar and left the scene. The incident was reported to the police by the teenager.
News Room understands that police retrieved a warhead from the scene. Moore has been taken into police custody and is assisting with the investigations.
