Taxi driver charged with rape of teen girl

A 22-year-old taxi driver was on Friday charged for raping a 13-year-old girl.

The taxi driver, Tevin Vickerie, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates Court and was not required to plea to the charge.

It is alleged that during the month of January 2018 at Soesdyke/Linden Highway, Vickerie raped the girl.

He was released on $400,000 and had his matter adjourned until September 19.

According to reports, Vickerie and the teen are known to each other and were involved in a relationship where he would pick her up in his taxi at home and drop her to and from school.

It is alleged one day during the month of January, Vickerie drove past the teen’s home to a lonely area along the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.

Vickerie allegedly locked the car doors and climbed to the back seat where the teen was seated.

He then asked the teen for sex and she refused. He then became annoyed and forced himself onto her. Vickerie, after raping the teen, dropped her home .

The teen subsequently told her relatives that she was raped and the matter was reported to the Police.
