A 48-year-old Linden Resident will be spending the next four years, six months behind bars after he was found guilty of causing the death of a woman in 2017 by dangerous driving.

Keith Hollingsworth and Ron Walker were on trial before Magistrate Judy Latchman but Walker was found not guilty of the offence on Monday.

It is alleged that Walker, a truck driver of 77 Kuru Kuru, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, and Hollingsworth, of Wismar, Linden, on August 21, 2017, at Diamond Public Road, drove GDD 9817 and PJJ 8918, respectively, and caused the death of Samsoonisha Batulan.

Both men had pleaded not guilty to the joint charge.

On Monday, Magistrate Latchman said that Hollingworth failed to exercise the ‘Five Cs’ in driving which are– care, courtesy, consideration, caution and common sense.

In finding him guilty, the Magistrate said that Hollingsworth did not pay attention to the road and because of his recklessness, he caused the accident which claimed the life of Batulan who attempted to cross the road.

Police had said that Hollingsworth was driving in front of Walker’s truck and attempted to overtake another vehicle when he struck down the woman.

The truck driver then slammed into Hollingsworth vehicle.
