Robbery suspect jailed for spitting on witness

A 23-year-old mason was sentenced to six weeks imprisonment by City Magistrate Leron Daly for spitting on a witness in court and threatening her.

Carlton Bourne of Chapel Street, Lodge confessed that on October 13, 2019, at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, he made use of threatening language towards Sherriann Persaud.

He further confessed that on October 15, 2019, at the same location, he assaulted Parsaud by spitting on her.

Magistrate Daly sentenced Bourne to serve six weeks imprisonment for each charge, however, the sentences will run concurrently.

Bourne is currently on remand for s series of charges including discharging a loaded firearm at two Police Officers and robbery.

It was during the trial that Bourne threatened Persaud, who is a witness in the matter and accused her of lying on him. On October 13, he turned to the woman while she was in court and spat on her.
