Six months after the March 2 polls, the Justice For All Party (JFAP) has officially withdrawn from the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU).
A letter signed by General Secretary of JFAP Savitree Singh Sharma to David Granger, Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) – the biggest party in APNU – stated that “Guyana’s political landscape is changing significantly and it demands a re-examination of roles and relationships.”
The letter is dated September 1, 2020.
The JFAP was represented in the APNU by Jaipaul Sharman who served in the former APNU+AFC Coalition as Junior Finance Minister and later Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure.
In early January 2020, Sharma resigned from the JFAP and joined the PNCR and subsequently resigned from “active politics” following the March 2 polls in which the Coalition was defeated.
The JFAP is the second party to pull out of the APNU; the Working People’s Alliance (WPA) on August 21 signalled its intent to withdraw in two months if its demands are not met and asked for its nominee to Parliament be withdrawn.
But the former WPA’s Chairman Tabitha Sarabo-Halley was sworn in as a Parliamentarian and has since resigned from the WPA.
The parties that remain in the APNU are the PNCR, the National Front Alliance and the Guyana Action Party.
