11-year-old struck down by car

An 11-year-old boy was on Monday struck down by a car on the Number 50 Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice at around 13:30h.

Police said the hire car was being driven by a 30-year-old of lot Grant 1778 Crabwood Creek Corentyne, Berbice, with four passengers, reportedly at a moderate speed.

The driver alleged that the boy ran across the road into his path and despite his efforts to swerve from the child, the right side fender of the vehicle collided with him.

The driver lost control of the car and ended up in a trench located on the eastern side of the said road.

The boy was picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he regained consciousness and was later transferred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital. He sustained a fractured right shoulder as a result of the accident.

The car was lodged and the driver was arrested.
