Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of a 20-year-old labourer of Retrieve, McKenzie Linden, who reportedly went to a swim in a creek nearby his camp and did not resurface.

Missing is Akeem Davidson. According to reports, the incident occurred on Tuesday at around 14:15 hrs at a creek located some 300 metres away from the Mabura Police Outpost.

Police said that Davidson and his friend, Sheldon Vanaco, ventured to the creek to bathe. Vanaco alleged that while they were swimming, Davidson went down into the creek and did not resurface.

The friend reportedly shouted at the victim, asking him to “stop playing” but 15 minutes elapsed with no response.

According to the police report, the friend travelled back to the creek and alerted the camp owner, Ephriam Benn, of what occurred; the two went back in search of the missing labourer but turned up empty-handed.

Reports indicate that police were alerted and a search commenced but to no avail.

Both men are currently in police custody as the investigations continue.
