Police nab two at Weldaad with $12.5M in cannabis

Two men were arrested on Sunday after being busted with $12.5 million worth of cannabis at Weldaad Public Road, West Coast Berbice.

The police report outlined that ranks intercepted a motorcar, PYY 9885, at a road block set up on the public road, opposite the Weldaad Police Station at around 16:30hrs.

The car had only two occupants – the driver and a male passenger.

Police said the passenger immediately exited the car and started to walk away, but he was quickly stopped and searched, but nothing illegal was found on his person. The driver was also searched and nothing illegal was found.

However, when the car was searched, police found seven bulky parcels containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis. The driver of the car admitted to police that the suspected cannabis belongs to him.

“He was told of the offence, cautioned and arrested and he said he was hired by the passenger,” the police report said.

The cannabis was weighed and it amounted to 113 kg, 636 grams.

Both men were then arrested awaiting charges.
