City Magistrate Leron Daly on Friday sentenced a 32-year-old man to serve two years imprisonment after he confessed to snatching a woman’s gold chain.

Sherman Ken, of Kaneville, Grove, East Bank Demerara, pleaded guilty to the charge which alleged that on June 21, 2022, at Brickdam Acess Road, he used personal violence to rob Farida Ali of a gold chain with a pendant valued at $28,000.

The magistrate, after taking into consideration Ken’s plea and the prevalence of the crime, sentenced him to serve two years imprisonment.

The court heard that Ali was walking along Brickdam when Ken pushed her, snatched the gold chain and cuffed her several times.

Ken escaped on foot and the victim raised an alarm. A city police, who was nearby, apprehended Ken and the gold chain was recovered in his possession.
