Wanted man Oneil Benn known as ‘Hot Skull’ of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, surrendered to the Police on Wednesday night.

The News Room was informed that Benn turned himself in at the Central Police Station in the presence of a relative.

About four gunshot wounds were observed on his body. Benn and members of the Police Force were involved in a shootout at a roadblock set up along the Lewis Manor No. 19 Public Road on Monday night around 21:00 hrs.

The News Room was reliably informed that Police ranks, acting on a tip off, set up a roadblock and stopped a black Toyota Fielder Wagon driven by a 32-year-old man from Lad Lane, New Amsterdam.

The car, which had three other occupants, attempted to turn around when they saw the Police roadblock.

Benn, who was among the three occupants of the vehicle, along with the driver, allegedly opened fire at the Police. Police returned fire and at some point, Benn exited the vehicle to make a run for it with an armed Policeman chasing behind on foot.

The suspect escaped into the nearby rice field but the Police noticed a trail of blood and a firearm (Lorcin .380) with a magazine and two live rounds nearby.

The driver and other occupants of the vehicle were subsequently taken into custody; the car and firearm with a magazine and live rounds were lodged.

Benn is wanted by the Police for a string of robberies and other offences.
