The 17-year-old suspect, who is accused of murdering Shimron Benjamin, the porknocker who was found with his face bashed in on Tuesday, is reportedly claiming that he committed the crime in an act of self defence.

Police sources told the News Room that the suspect, who hails from Four Mile Village, Port Kaituma, was arrested hours after the murder with spots of blood about his body.

“He told ranks he had to defend himself,” a Police source told the News Room.

The suspect remains in police custody and is likely to be charged soon.

The body of Benjamin, of Quarry Top, Port Kaituma, North West District (NWD) was found in the grass with blood on his head about 30 feet from his home.

The murder occurred at Four Miles Village, Port Kaituma.

Police had reported that Benjamin was last seen imbibing high wine with the suspect and they both appeared intoxicated.

Benjamin’s body was discovered by a farmer, who immediately informed the village Toshao.

He was taken to the Port Kaituma District Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His body is at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. Police found a piece of rock with a reddish substance, suspected to be blood, at the scene.
