Two men nabbed with 12lbs of ganja

Two Best Village, West Bank Demerara (WBD), residents were arrested on Monday after they were nabbed with 12 pounds of marijuana at Quartzstone Landing, Region Seven.

In custody are Rickford Rogers, 26 and Mckya Smith, 23. The marijuana was stashed in a boat the men were in.

Police Headquarters said the duo were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation in the area.

The boat, Police said, was transporting passengers and fuel to the Quartzstone Landing in the Cuyuni River.

It was reported that ranks requested to search the vessel and its occupants as it was approaching the landing. There, a search was carried out on all occupants, including Rogers and Smith, but nothing illegal was found on their person or personal belongings, Police said.

The ranks then searched the boat. There was a sealed cardboard box that belonged to the men in the vessel. When the box was opened, the illegal drugs were found inside.

“A search of the box revealed 11 large plastic-wrapped parcels which contained leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis,” Police reported.

The men were subsequently told of the offence, cautioned and arrested.

They were later escorted to the Bartica Police Station where the cannabis was weighed and amounted to 12.2 pounds.

The men are likely to be charged soon.
