Shameer Basika, a 29-year-old Teacher from Cummings Lodge, Georgetown was arrested on Emancipation Day (Tuesday last) after he assaulted a peace officer.
On Wednesday, he made an appearance at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court and was charged with assaulting a Peace Officer, contrary to Section 28 (b) of the Summary Jurisdiction Offence Act, Chapter 8:02.
The accused appeared before Magistrate R. Liverpool, where the charge was read to him, the Guyana Police Force said in a statement.
He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to eight weeks imprisonment.
