Opposition Leader, Bharrat Jagdeo has described the excuses being made by Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan regarding the 2:00am curfew as the “silliest thing ever.”

The Minister’s move to relax the curfew for the Christmas Season after stating prior that it is the law and nothing can be done to adjust it following calls from the Private Sector to extend the time also raised some questions in the opposition circles.

Jagdeo says while he is not in agreement with noise nuisance, he believes that such a curfew prohibits the freedoms of people. He is contending that if the curfew is law then it should be brought to the National Assembly.

The Opposition Leader said a link between the escalating crime rate and the curfew is non-existent.

He stated further that the Government does not know what it wants and this is sending the wrong signals to the population and the criminals. Jagdeo said the security forces are operating professionally but Government is clueless about what it wants to do, hence the crime situation will continue unabated.
