Deadly nightclub brawl: Labourer charged with murder

A 21-year-old labourer was charged with the murder of Carlos ‘Tony’ Williams on Monday at the Whim’s Magistrate’s Court.

Rickford “Baba” Thomas, of Rose Hall Town and Fyrish Village, Corentyne, Berbice appeared before Alex Moore and was remanded until January 17, 2020 for report.

In the wee hours of Christmas morning on Wednesday last, Williams and his reputed wife Charlene Harry and a friend, Paul Grant, were drinking at a club at Portuguese Quarters in Berbice.

Williams reportedly stepped out of the club and when about ten minutes had passed without him returning, his wife went looking for him.

She found her husband and Thomas involved in a scuffle on the parapet. The woman told Police that she intervened and tried to get them to stop, but Thomas stabbed her to her left thigh.

By this time, Grant, then also intervened and the suspect lashed him to the left side of his jaw.

The suspect then allegedly took a sharp object and stabbed Williams to the abdomen and escaped.

Williams was taken to Port Mourant Public Hospital where he succumbed while receiving medical attention; Paul Grant and Charlene Harry were treated and discharged.
