Security guard arrested for fatal shooting of teenager at Lusignan

Police have arrested a 20-year-old security guard in connection with the fatal shooting of Jared Jaganand, a 19-year-old handyman of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Police Headquarters reported that both men were at Shaf Auto Sales located at Lusignan West, ECD, when the incident occurred at about 11:10 hrs on Thursday.

The suspect is attached to Cerberus Security Service and he was was armed with one 12-guage shotgun, which is owned by the security company.

The businessman who manages the company told the police that he and his wife returned to the store after transacting business and observed the suspect on duty and the teen seated in a chair, a short distance away from the security officer’s desk.

The businessman said he and his wife proceeded to his office. A few minutes later they heard a loud explosion in the store.

The businessman said he immediately exited his office where he saw the teen lying motionless on the ground with blood on the lower section of his body. The security officer told him Jared was shot.

Jared, who is employed at the auto company, was taken to the Woodlands Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The matter was reported to the Vigilance Police Station at 14:10 hrs.

Police went to Woodlands Hospital where the body was examined and a gunshot wound was seen on the upper left leg.

“Several persons were questioned in the area and certain information was received.  The area was canvassed for CCTV cameras and several were seen affixed at the building,” the police release noted.

The suspect was arrested and is presently in custody at the Vigilance Police Station.

The shotgun was lodged along with five live cartridges and one spent shell.

    sheer nonsense going on with Home Affairs ,Police & all these newbies so called security companies.
    How could a 20 year old be approved to carry a shotgun? ( any firearm)
    You have genuine matured business owners waiting years for a license & up comes a “security company” employing youths & H.A.& police ok with that.
    The “grangers” still ruling & no stopping to that.
    unless we get a $10k Bharrat.
